Everything here is reference information drawn from the research literature, not medical advice, and Lamduan is neither a doctor nor a pharmacist. Supplements are not medicines and do not replace anything a doctor has prescribed. If you take regular medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have liver or kidney disease, or have surgery coming up, speak to a pharmacist or doctor before starting anything on this page.

A mineral over 300 enzymes depend on. The form matters: glycinate, citrate and malate absorb far better than oxide, which is the cheapest and the worst absorbed.

📏Dose and ceiling
Commonly used: 200-400 mg per day
350 mg/day — IOM; EFSA says 250 mg. Counts supplemental magnesium only, not food, and is set on diarrhoea rather than toxicity.
Caution
Excess causes diarrhoea, which is self-limiting and not dangerous. But in impaired kidney function the safety margin nearly vanishes — high blood magnesium causes low blood pressure, muscle weakness and, at the extreme, cardiac arrest. Ask a doctor first.
Interacts with medicines
Reduces absorption of quinolone and tetracycline antibiotics and of bisphosphonates — separate by at least 2-4 hours.
