Everything here is reference information drawn from the research literature, not medical advice, and Lamduan is neither a doctor nor a pharmacist. Supplements are not medicines and do not replace anything a doctor has prescribed. If you take regular medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have liver or kidney disease, or have surgery coming up, speak to a pharmacist or doctor before starting anything on this page.

📏Dose and ceiling
Commonly used: 55-200 mcg per day
400 mcg/day — IOM; EFSA cut theirs to 255 mcg in 2023. The gap between the recommended amount (55) and the ceiling is unusually narrow.
When to take it
Take with food.
Caution
Excess causes selenosis: first garlic breath and a metallic taste, then hair loss, brittle and shedding nails, rash, nausea, fatigue and nerve abnormalities. Brazil nuts carry 68-91 mcg each — a few a day is already near the ceiling, and it counts.
